VLC

VLC is another option as a Linux media player. It’s not very nice looking (uses ancient GTK 1.2.) and it’s poorly localized, but sometimes it just plays a video that Xine doesn’t want to touch, for unknown reasons. That’s why it’s good to have it installer, just as a “last chance player”.

VLC functions:
- Portability - VLC works in GNU/Linux, BSD, MS Windows, MacOSX as well as in some very unusual environments like Yopy, WinCE or Zaurus
- Support for DVD, VCD and video streams
- Support for most of the popular media formats (no support for RealVideo however)
- It can be also used as a multimedia-streams server
- More: VLC features (on the project’s website)

Ummm….maybe because it doesn’t use the xine engine *rolls eyes*
this should prolly be updated, vlc looks much better than when this was written and for my money is the best video player for linux.
