Siag Office is the simplest and the least resource-hungry office suite for GNU/Linux. It comes as a default suite in DSL (Damn Small Linux) and some other distributions targetted at older PC-s

Siag Office includes:

  • Scheme In A Grid - spreadsheet
  • Pathetic Writer - word editor
  • Egon Animator - animation-creating software

Unfortunately Siag Office does not support neither OpenDocument nor MS Office documents, thus it is recommended only for users who do not require serious interoperability .

Siag is great, but there is StarOffice 5.1.
Don’t try StarOffice 5.0 or 5.2 into old PCs!
Install exactly StarOffice 5.1! You can get old RPMs of SO 5.1 from old cover CDs magazines.

It works pretty well in old PCs. Its not OpenSource, but was free by the time it was released.
