Installed the second beta and would not recommend it, still prefer open office, and Microsoft Word. It is slower, and does consume more memory, as well as more bugs. I really think they should implement something different to side bars, particular with widescreen monitors these days, most people would want to see their page centered.

Guess everyone has their own issues with this software. But I had no problems with it on my Ubuntu Linux. Installed fine and works fine.

Good Luck!!

Been an OO user and liked it much but was too bland in appearance. I took this Beta for a spin and was frustrated that Symphony was sooo slow. Then I remembered I tweaked OO with this:
File/Preferences/Productivity Tool/Memory/total cache size/128MB/Apply
I did the same to Symphony and response time has vastly improved in all aspects. Now the functionality designed by IBM can be truly appreciated. I now get a more functional better looking tool than I had...for the same price.

Thanks for the excellent and comprehensive review of Symphony beta. The screenshots were well selected and much appreciated as well. I hope IBM can get their act together - OOo has solid functionality, but could use a UI makeover!
