The advantage comes when you need it most. These are the times when you just this one time omitted your otherwise religiously obeyed rule. And you need that file RIGTH NOW. In such case beagle/tracker or any other indexing tool saves life.

This is an interesting tool but I have never found myself in need of such a thing. Do some (most) people just drop things all over their hard drive instead of categorizing them? For me, all of my music files are in ~/Music and documents in ~/Docs. Since I already know this and follow it religiously I just can't see a need for indexing. Is there another advantage to indexing that I simply have not seen?

That was for a smart find/locate GUI. May I suggest a smart GUI for grep? It's Sagasu, the forgotten gem.
