It's much lighter than a VM. If you lack the RAM, VM is useless. 2. It doesn't require the user to accept the license terms of Windows. If you use Linux/BSD in part for the freedoms granted by the licensing terms, then running Windows in a VM doesn't make much sense. 3. If you use Linux/BSD in part for the free cost, then buying Windows for use in a VM doesn't make much sense either. It’s too bad that the themes slow wine down, but to answer the angry keyboarder…Wine is immensely useful for 3 reasons.

I have a pretty new fast computer and thought I would try it out. Still too slow for me. Hopefully they will speed this up since Wine has such a fast development cycle, who knows. It's a big problem and I find it difficult to recommend anyone to use them. Hopefully someday we'll see Wine using the native appearances of Gnome or KDE, but until then you're essentially stuck with either ugly looks or horrible performance.
