"Why anyone bothers with Wine anymore is beyond me. Virtual Machines are the way to go."

Are you assuming everyone has a legit win 2000/xp/vista license they can run in that vm??

It's too bad that the themes slow wine down, but to answer the angry keyboarder...Wine is immensely useful for 3 reasons.

1. It's much lighter than a VM. If you lack the RAM, VM is useless.
2. It doesn't require the user to accept the license terms of Windows. If you use Linux/BSD in part for the freedoms granted by the licensing terms, then running Windows in a VM doesn't make much sense.
3. If you use Linux/BSD in part for the free cost, then buying Windows for use in a VM doesn't make much sense either.

Wine apps themselves don't all run slow with a theme, just windows and dialogs that actually use the theme. I have a pretty new fast computer and thought I would try it out. Still too slow for me. Hopefully they will speed this up since Wine has such a fast development cycle, who knows.

Yeah, Wine runs incredibly slow when using Msstyles. It's a big problem and I find it difficult to recommend anyone to use them.

Hopefully someday we'll see Wine using the native appearances of Gnome or KDE, but until then you're essentially stuck with either ugly looks or horrible performance.

For me, after applying wine runs terribly slow. I can see the UI drawn line by line.
