I have Windows XP from my hard drive partition running under Vmware Server :-)

What you need to do to achieve that is:
You must set a new hardware profile for Vmware. After installed windows in real hardware mode, you must repair system from your XP CD under Vmware choosing the vmware hardware profile.

Be carefull not to run Windows XP directly after suspended it in Vmware in Linux. Be carefull also with mounting windows partitions in Linux when you are running / suspended windows inside Vmware. Be carefull not to boot Linux in Vmware when you are in the same Linux (to protect against this you can set vmdisable option in lilo.conf)
