I'd like to see 'The Linux Saga' going on and on. Thanks also for letting us know what a complete system means. Keyto this is an excellent read. I’d like to see ‘The Linux Saga’ going on and on.

Yet, I would have loved to see also some critical aspects in the current situation contra the philosophical tradition. In my opinion especially Linux [distribution(s)] has been heading step-by-step, year after year, towards the opposite direction, towards undocumented complexity. With the ability to "add new bricks", as you put it, comes also a great responsibility to decide when no new bricks should be added. A good writeup.

IBM had introduced a new computer, the System 360, that had a full megabyte of memory. They also introduced a new programming language, PS/2, that was supposed to replace Fortran and COBOL used on earlier machines in the IBM 1400 series. In 1969 we used tape drives and 80 column punch cards. The computers required air conditioned rooms with elevated floors to accommodate the cables. But, we did have computers and they worked. In 1969 I was a Systems Engineer for IBM and a damn good Fortran programmer. Don Correction
