Yoper

Yoper is advertised as the fastest operating system on Earth, out-of-the-box. There is something in it. Speed and responsiveness are their trademarks, but thers is more to Yoper than this.

The speed is obtained mainly via prelinking, stripping and package compilation for the i686 architecture (it will work on Pentium II or better). The nice thing is also installation. The stable system installs in 5-10 minutes. It's far better than any other distro. Of course the drawback is that there is almost no configuration whatsoever.

There are cons as well. Lots of them actually. Yoper is developed by a few devoted guys, but it really lacks manpower. The latest release is Yoper 3.0 (released in June 2007).

the live CD (3.0) is incredible. it’s more responsive than my Fedora Core 6. a live CD that launches programs instantly and is overall very fast using Beryl is pretty impressive.
if the live CD is estimated to by seven times slower than the actual install, this would mean that it would e.g. take 0/7 seconds to launch Firefox ;)

I’m waiting on some new hardware. once I get that I’m going Yoper full time. I’ll let you know if it sucks.
